Ocon Released From Mercedes

Esteban Ocon has been the talk of the Formula One grid since it was announced that he’d be moving to Renault in the 2020 Season. Most weren’t expecting this transfer, with Renault putting Daniel Riccardo into their racing seats this season. Now Renault will have two drivers who compete for top placements, which as we have seen with Ferrari, can sometimes be a wrong decision. It was expected that Ocon wouldn’t be contractually released to Renault until the end of the 2019 Season in Abu Dhabi. However, Mercedes announced today that they are releasing Ocon at the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. Subsequently, fans of the driver can expect him in his new Renault gear, supporting the team for the last race in the season.

Ocon’s History

Esteban Ocon last drove in 2018 for Racing Point Force India, where he was switched out for Lance Stroll. This decision was foolish, with Ocon being removed from the team because it was bought out by Lance Stroll’s father. Since then, Lance Stroll has become the daddy’s boy of the grid and one of the least respected drivers in recent memory. Esteban Ocon had driven more than 50 Grand Prix’s before Racing Point tossed him. Shortly after that, it was announced that he would be the reserve driver for Mercedes. Unfortunately, Ocon didn’t race once this season as the reserve driver. However, he did receive a two-year contract with Renault. Fans of the sport shouldn’t count him out from a championship title just yet.

Esteban Ocon has received extensive training from Toto Wolff, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas since joining the team. He’s working with the engineers on briefings and even tested the new Pirelli tires for the 2020 Season. He is the only driver to have tested these new tires, giving him an advantage over his competition. Those wanting to see what this young driver can accomplish at Renault can watch him during post-race testing at the Abu Dhabi Marina Bay Circuit on December 3rd and 4th.

Team Reno

This surely will come as a significant stinger for Nico Hulkenberg, who hasn’t received a seat for the 2020 Season after being fired from the team for Ocon. The awkwardness surrounding the final race will be immense in the Renault Garage. Daniel Riccardo also isn’t looking forward to being teammates with Ocon. There could be significant issues revolving around the two come mid-way through the 2020 Season. It will be interesting to see how the Esteban Ocon tale plays out at Renault.
