With seven appearances in the final and a total of five victories, Australia is currently ranked as the number one team when it comes to contestants in the Cricket World Cup. This is followed by the West Indies and India that each have three appearances in the final along with two victories.
The Cricket World Cup is considered an international sporting tournament that is hosted by the ICC (International Cricket Council). The competition occurs every four years and is regarded as the flagship tournament when it comes to international cricket. Even though the first match of the first International cricket tournament was played between Canada and the United States in 1844, the very first Test match occurred between Australia and England in 1877. The first ever Cricket World Cup was held in England during 1975 where the West Indies managed to take home the trophy. The eight teams that participated in the tournament included the first 6 Test nations, including Pakistan, West Indies, India, New Zealand, Australia, and England. Sri Lanka and South Africa also joined the competition. Today, you will find ten full-member countries. Each member has been approved by the prestigious World Cricket League and has each been chosen after a qualifying tournament.
In 2015, along with more than 90,000 spectators in the Melbourne stadium, Australia managed to win by seven wickets against New Zealand to win the Cricket World Cup. New Zealand posted 183 runs in 45 overs as the runner-up team.
During the Mumbai World Cup in 2011, the Indian cricket team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, managed to win by six wickets when they played against Sri Lanka as the runner-up team who posted 274 runs in 50 overs. The stadium had over 42,000 spectators who watched the game.
In 1979, the West Indies cricket team led by Clive Lloyd managed to win the Cricket World Cup after they defeated England in London. England managed to accumulate a score of 194 runs in 51 overs as the runner-up team. More than 32,000 spectators witnessed the game.
Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each won the Cricket World Cup once. During the 1996 Cricket World Cup, Sri Lanka managed to defeat Australia, while Pakistan managed to beat England during the 1992 Cricket World Cup. In 1992, 1987, and 1979, England was the runner-up team. In 2015, New Zealand was the runner-up team in the Cricket World Cup.

The Man of the Tournament award is given to the player that contributes the most to his winning side during a Cricket World Cup. The recipients of this award have gone to James Faulkner, Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, David Boon, Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting, Wasim Akram, Mohinder Amarnath, Aravinda de Silva, Adam Gilchrist, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
